Big Band Jazz Workshop at the Marigliano In Jazz Festival

As a part of the Marigliano in Jazz Festival, the internationally acclaimed pianist, composer, and bandleader Antonio Ciacca will lead an exciting three-day immersion into the rich jazz tradition of the Big Band. Throughout the workshop, which is available to students of all ages, participants will work in a classic Big Band (5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, full rhythm section) to perform and study the music of legends like Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Thad Jones, Neal Hefti (of the Count Basie Orchestra), and Benny Carter, as well as new works by modern composers Andy Farber and Antonio Ciacca.
The workshop culminates with a final concert on 30 June, 2012, featuring vibraphone extraordinaire Mark Sherman. A full schedule of events may be found below.

About Antonio Ciacca
Internationally recognized pianist and educator Antonio Ciacca debuted on the jazz scene in the mid-1990s, sharing the stage with such luminaries as Benny Golson, Wynton Marsalis, Lee Konitz, Jon Hendricks, and Steve Lacy. Moving to New York City in 2007, Ciacca has since appeared regularly at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, the Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls Jazz Club, and the Setai Fifth Avenue Hotel; leading ensembles that have featured Joe Lovano, George Garzone, John Patitucci, Lewis Nash, Jerry Bergonzi, Peter Bernstein, and many more.
A prolific composer and arrange, Ciacca has published more than 100 jazz compositions; recorded seven albums as a band leader; and arranged music for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the Jazz Heritage Orchestra, the Woody Herman Orchestra, and the David Berger Orchestra. Ciacca's enormous contributions to jazz education were cemented in 2009, when he was invited to join the faculty at the esteemed Juilliard School of Music in New York, where he continues to teach.
